Country at Random

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 17, 2026

This policy explains what Country at Random (countryatrandom.com) does and does not do with information when you use the site. The short version: every draw -- a random country, capital, flag, US state, continent or language, and every quiz score -- happens entirely in your browser and is never sent to our servers, our host keeps ordinary server logs briefly, and advertising and analytics cookies are used only in the ways described here, with a way to refuse each.

What happens in your browser

Every draw and every quiz on this site runs entirely on your device; nothing you generate, answer, or score is sent to our servers, and there are no accounts. Quiz scores and draw history exist only in your browser tab's memory for the current page view and disappear on reload -- this site does not use localStorage or any similar on-device storage for any of that. It does use localStorage for two small preferences, described in the next section: whether you've accepted or declined the cookie-consent notice, and whether you've opted out via the Do Not Sell or Share page. Both are just a remembered choice, not a profile -- neither stores which country, capital, flag, state, continent or language a tool drew for you, or any quiz answer or score.

What our servers record

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel records standard request logs (the page requested, your IP address, browser type, referring page, and time) to operate and secure the service. We do not use these logs to identify individual visitors, and they are retained only for a short period under Vercel's privacy policy.

Cookies and consent

The site itself sets no cookies. It does use localStorage -- not a cookie, and never sent to a server -- to remember your cookie-consent choice and any Do Not Sell opt-out, described above. Two categories of third-party tools may set cookies or use similar identifiers:

You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site works without them.

Advertising

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites. Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads here; their cookies and identifiers are subject to their own policies.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of many other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices (United States) or youronlinechoices.eu (Europe). How Google uses information from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Analytics

We use two tools to understand aggregate traffic, such as which pages are visited and where visitors come from. Google Analytics 4 runs subject to the consent rules above; it is configured with IP anonymisation and we do not enable advertising features or user-level identifiers. Ahrefs Web Analytics is cookieless: it counts page views without setting any identifier on your device and without personal data, so it does not require consent. Neither tool is used to build a profile of you, and neither one ever sees which country, capital, flag, state, continent or language a tool drew for you, or your quiz answers -- those never leave your browser except as part of an aggregate, anonymous page-view count.

Email you send us

If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to reply and resolve the matter, then delete it. We do not add you to any list.

Children

Country at Random is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Because the site holds almost nothing about you, most requests are simple. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data we hold, and to withdraw consent at any time (use the cookie notice or your browser settings; ad choices are at the links above). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion; we do not sell personal information, and opting out of personalised ads is how you exercise the "do not share" choice for advertising cookies. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To make a request, email us at the address below.

Third parties we rely on

California privacy rights

California residents can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.
